Without water, what would we be ? Whatever form it takes, it scoffs at borders and often links very different cultures, regions and countries together, in this way becoming a source of opportunities, but also the object of numerous desires. "Once upon a time there was a river. Here is the story of wisdom. Once upon a time there was the great Senegal River. Born in Guinea, it runs downstream to Mali, enters Senegal, and borders Mauritania before flowing into the sea.
These four countries, all equally sons of this thirst- quenching, irrigating, energy-giving water, could have fought each other. Or ignore each other, each taking from it without concern for the others. These four countries decided otherwise. Thus was born a common development agency. Thus was created this incomparable tool of wisdom. An exception in a world increasingly torn by conflicts focused on water.
Here is the story of this wisdom, told by its principal artisan. Here is a model to follow. Take a leaf out of this book, Mekong and Brahmaputra (notably)! ' Erik Orsenna, of the Académie française

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Kabiné Komara

Kabiné Komara is Guinean. An international banker, he is involved in humanist, environmental and development projects. His international studies (in France and the United States) enabled him to take on responsibilities in varied countries and sectors, like mining and banking. Recognized as one of the 100 personalities who have contributed to the progress of the African continent, Mr. Komara was also prime minister.
He consequently spared Guinea the devastating upheavals of the pivotal period from late 2008 to early 2010, which earned him recognition from his country and the international community. During his four-year mandate at the head of the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS), Mr. Komara hoisted this structure to world leader of water basin bodies and was president of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) from 2013 to 2014.
Today, he is an international consultant on strategy, financing and hydro-diplomacy. He is on the board of administration of several international fondations such as the Global Fairness Initiative (GFI), the Fondation Brazzaville pour la paix et la conservation de la nature and the International Action Council.
