Exploring how people around the globe and across history have harnessed the power of dress to express themselves, costume designer and dress historian Camille Benda weaves a narrative of historical and current protest garb, from outrageous French Revolution rebel fashion to Che Guevará s mud-splattered military uniform to Pussy Riot's punk balaclavas.
Nearly two hundred archival images, photographs, and paintings bring centuries of protest to life, from ancient Roman rebellions to the #MeToo movement, from twentieth-century punk subcultures to Black Lives Matter marches.
