Biographie de Gérard Etienne
Poet, novelist, essayist, and journalist, Gerard Etienne chose exile to Canada in 1964 after having been imprisoned and tortured in Haiti. He spent a great deal of his life in New Brunswick where he taught linguistics and journalism at the University of Moncton. In 1993, a politically linked attempt was made on his life because of articles he published on the dangers of anarchy and populism in Haiti.
Ever rince, he has pursued his fight for positive change in his country of origin. He now lives in Montreal where he continues to write. He has been translated into many languages and throughout his career, has received a number of prizes and distinctions for his writings. He has penned close to 30 books, which include La Reine soleil levée and Le Nègre crucifié, and has been published in Port-au-Prince, Montreal, Paris, Geneva, Rome and Miami.
