oliverberry.com. My favourite walk It's far from easy going, but for me the epic walk to Mont Aigoual (p158) offers some of the finest views of one of France's loveliest corners, the Cévennes. Hills, forests, ridges, traditional villages and a top-of-the-world lookout - this walk has them all. And at the end of the day, your aching legs will make you feel like you've earned them. Steve Fallon : A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Steve lived in Hong Kong for more than a dozen years and Budapest for three years, before moving to London in 1994.
He has written or contributed to more than a hundred Lonely Planet titles. Steve is a qualified London Blue Badge Tourist Guide. Visit his website at www.steveslondon.com. My favourite walk The Grouin : Up to a Point walk (p36) to the stormy headland offers everything - from views over islands to the sea and even to Mont St-Michel, as well as WWII-era relics and a plethora of local birdlife. ANITA ISALSKA : Anita is a travel journalist and digital content strategist.
After several merry years as a staff writer and editor - a few of them in Lonely Planet's London office - Anita now works freelance between California, the UK and any French mountain lodge with wi-fi. Anita specialises in Eastern and Central Europe, Australia, France and her adopted home, San Francisco. Read about her on www.anitaisalska.com. My favourite walk The Chemin des Chèvres to the top of Puy de Dôme (p110) is a classic, thanks to volcanic views and a quaint train ride back down.
This trail sparked my long love affair with the Auvergne. NICOLA WILLIAMS : Be it walking, trail running, cross-country or alpine skiing, the French Alps have been the weekend playground of British writer Nicola Williams for over a decade. From her home in a village on the southern shore of Lake Geneva in Haute-Savoie, she has researched and written more than 50 guidebooks for Lonely Planet and covers France as a destination expert for the Daily Telegraph.
Catch her hard at work on the road or up a mountain on Twitter and Instagram at @tripalong. My favourite walk It really is hard to pinpoint just one, but it's Lac des Vaches & Col de la Vanoise (p88). It is a reasonably challenging walk, full of surprises and exhilarating moments, leading walkers through every possible alpine landscape : from pea-green flower fields at lower altitudes to heartachingly bleak, desolate moraines and awe-inspiring, ice-blue glaciers up high.
