Born in Havana, Cuba, she went to the United States as a refugee. She lives in Georgia, USA. Brian Lies is a best-selling author and illustrator, and a Caldecott Honoree for The Rough Patch. He is a masterful visual storyteller and is best known for his popular Bats books; his most recent is Little Bat in Night School.
