Torres García Art School The Legacy

The basic objectives of the research have focused on describing the actions developed by the Torres García Workshop to disseminate the proposal of Constructive Art and Constructive Universalism and interpret its impact on disseminating agents of Uruguayan national art. Taking as a reference the center of interest of the Taller's action in Montevideo society, we have sought to analyze the general projection of its dissemination activities on representative institutions and people, fundamentally schools, museums, galleries, artists, critics and auctioneers. This is a descriptive and interpretive investigation of a single case that has been studied in depth, with a markedly qualitative approach, supported by the analysis of documentary sources preferably from the time of the Workshop and the experiences of those who participated in the experience.
. The field study focused on the evaluation of the impact generated by the Taller Torres Garcia on the context of Montevideo society, taking as reference a study of the work produced and the processes of social communication, analyzed with reference to the works of art themselves and the generated posts. Addressing the relationship of the Taller with its environment has required an adequate balance between psychological and sociological approaches to art, studies of the organization and functioning of an educational institution and especially the relationship with producing artists and audiences related to art. The presentation of the results allows us to better understand the contributions of the Torresgarcian proposal that generated the conditions to develop a reengineering project of national art, showing signs of the integration of the aesthetic foundations of Constructive Art in the Uruguayan national culture.
