Did you know that the Jews marched 15 miles from Jericho to Ai at an incline that took them upward about oe mile in elevation? Maybe that is one reason why Joshua did not feel the need to send a larger group into Ai. And maybe they were tired (See Joshua chapter 9)!Did you know that Elijah outran some horses when he ran from Mount Carmel (1680') to Jezreel (309')? Did you know that the distance was between 15 to 20 miles down the side of one mountain and up a slow incline to the city? (1 Kings 18:45:46).
A good understanding of the geography of the Holy Lands will greatly aid in the study of the Scriptures. It helps to "see" the scenarios described in the historical books. Bible Geography can be difficult and a bit boring for many people if the common approach to learning Geography is used. I will simply call it the "dictionary approach". You know - every river, mountain, city, and town is listed in alphabetical order.
This book takes a different approach by giving a brief introduction to the layout of the Holy Lands. And then, it takes a look at many of the most significant locations in a "book-by-book" order. There is also a complete index at the end for those who simply want to use it like a dictionary and look up a location.
