In addition to his novels and literary collections, his short story "Washing Dishes" was published in the literary journal Arable and another, "Miles From the Edge, Years From the End" was published in Tobacco, a Literary Anthology.
Brooks also writes about the history of science and technology, focused largely on space exploration, specifically manned space exploration. Within these considerations Brooks has explored how technology arose, its purpose, and how technology changes the ideas and concepts of who we are, and why we are.
