The low carb diet, also known as the low carbohydrate diet, is a way of eating in which the consumption of carbohydrates is reduced to a minimum. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy for the body, but too many carbohydrates can lead to a rise in blood sugar levels and cause long-term health problems. In the low carb diet, most carbohydrates, especially simple carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour, are avoided or greatly reduced.
Instead, the focus is on protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy products, as well as healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil and nuts.
