Kevin sees himself as ugly. All Rodolfo can see is perfection. Rodolfo is walking along the beach when he catches Kevin staring at him, so he introduces himself. He can sense that Kevin is uncertain about something but doesn't know what. Kevin has a lot of insecurities. As much as he wants to free himself of those self-doubts, they continue to weigh him down.
