Heartstring Stories is a collection of four contemporary and science-fiction short stories with the underlying theme of relating to the reader's emotions by delving into the connection and relationships between characters in a time of crisis. From ghosts to goodbyes, each story looks into how the relationships are tested during these times. "The Laundromat" follows Stan, a young college-aged man who's living in the unfortunate common reality of living off of spare change in order to use the laundromat. At his laundromat, an old woman is the only other person during his current visit. As Stan is brought to interact with the woman, a new side of the laundromat is opened to him. "Remembrance" is about Clark, an older man who recently became a widower. To search for something his wife left him, Clark returns one last time to their frequent vacation spot in the northeast, Elk Ridge. Being in such a place, however, Clark is forced to remember moments with his wife that make grieving her that much harder. "The Bite" looks at a pair of twins, Tucker and Kathy, during a zombie apocalypse. When Tucker is bitten while on a supply run, the twins spend their last moments together and make peace with his fate before the inevitable. "Holding On" is a story about Grant, a man whose mother passed away and a father who handles the situation poorly in his eyes. Grant visits a therapist to attempt to settle his feelings about his complicated home life while stricken with grief and loathing of his father.
