The lifetime journey of one man as he struggles first as a portrait painter, then as the inventor of the electric telegraph...the first method of instant recorded communications that changed the world forever. Samuel Morse always wished to be a painter of historical events, but instead he was commissioned to paint the likeness of his sitters, allowing him to live only a meager life, often in poverty; until one day he envisioned a pathway to communicate using electricity.
From that moment on, Morse worked at his invention, writing a code (morse code) that could record each transmission on paper. Alfred Vail and Leonard Gale assisting him to perfect the machine that could send messages over wires around the globe. This book is a comprehensive novel of his life. It is not a documentary or textbook, but a flowing story with all the characters and dialogue of people he meets, many of whom are today famous historical figures, scenes of places he travels to, and so many more surprises that the reader will enjoy learning about...including, what is Finley's message.

À propos de l'auteur

Biographie de Susan Le Bel

Susan J. LeBel grew up in New Hampshire, enjoying the great outdoors. As a young girl she attended the Currier Art School to explore her interests in drawing and painting. After living in Washington, DC for a few years she returned to NH becoming a police officer. Her career in law enforcement spanned 30 years. Aside from the continuous education in that field, she also studied at the NH Institute of Art, with oil painting being her most loved medium.
She lived in a log cabin, where she enjoyed painting and gardening. After meeting the love of her life, Kevin Bevis, they built their own home on a lake. Painting en plein air, mostly on the seacoast of Maine and New Hampshire, and painting portraits, led her to enlarge her studio to accommodate several works at any given time. As they both loved history, traveling to research the book was an adventure: Charlestown, Mass., Concord, NH, Charleston, SC, Washington, DC, Morristown, NJ, and Poughkeepsie, NY.
Now in the autumn of their years, they enjoy their family, friends, and especially their grandchildren.and their Australian Cattle Dog, KoKo.
