After the Schumann family moved to Dusseldorf in 1850, Clara Schumann (1819-1896) had a new lease of life in terms of her productivity as a composer. The "Three Romances op. 22" for Violin and Pianoforte were composed in 1853 and are dedicated to the violinist Joseph Joachim, with whom she performed the work a couple of times. The piano part has been left in its original form, with only the viola part being adapted to suit the instrument. This edition thus provides a welcome addition to the meagre repertoire for viola in the form of a lyrical and romantic work that is sure to win many friends. Instrumentation : viola and piano op. 22
