Le cloître de Saint-Trophime d'Arles (Relié)

Masterpiece of the Romanesque and Gothic art, the Saint-Trophime Cloister has recently been completely restored. Dated from the 12t1ì and 14th centuries, the edifice gathers rich and numerous iconographic patterns, of a high theological standard, which gives it a prime position in art history. However, the edifice was damaged by pollution and more importantly by water infiltrations, which made its preservation problematic.
An emergency plan was settled : the restoration and the development of the Cloister by the city of Arles with the Ministry of Culture, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, department of Bouches-du-Rhône and the support of the World Monuments Fund. Wishing to open to the public the exceptional richness of this place and to reveal the important construction work which gave back its full beauty to the building, the city of Arles, Actes Sud Publisher and the World Monument Fund associated for the publication of a book in English and in French.
Contributors specialized in art history, architecture, sculpted settings or building restoration participated in the highlighting of the various facets of the Saint-Trophime Cloister, a building ranked as historical monument and one of Unesco's World Heritage sites.
