FreeSpaces will change the way you look at organizing whatever space you live in. Rather than a one-time fix-all solution, FreeSpaces approaches organization as a process, one that includes subtle changes in habits, transitions through different stages of life, and options that take both time and space into consideration. While full of down-to-basics how-to tips, like how to reorganize the bathroom cabinet and how to purge and organize kitchen cupboards, FreeSpaces also takes a wider look at how you move through your day, through your life, and how you think and feel about your belongings and your space.
This collection of articles includes step-by-step suggestions on thinning out an over-stuffed closet, alongside more conceptual discussions such as overcoming motivational blocks and how making your bed can make your day. Burns does not give strict instructions about matching baskets on an open shelf, lining shoes up at the door by size, folding socks the 'right' way, or fitting into a static definition of organized.
Instead, this lively collection of articles is about you uncovering your own organizing style in a way that works. The hardest parts of home organization are figuring out where to start, and how to stay organized. With the busy-ness of daily life, changing and maintaining your spaces to fit you and your lifestyle can be overwhelming. FreeSpaces offers a treasure trove of advice on how to make your life a bit simpler, more manageable, and more present.

Biographie de Theresa Burns

Raised in the gorgeous Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, I spent most of my life traveling and living in variety of places, I have now settled back home where I started with my partner of twenty-one years and my teenage son. I have an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy and a second Associate's Degree in Humanities. After that I studied literature, women's studies, and philosophy at the University of Rochester and Hartwick College, and completed a four-year degree in Literature and Writing from Empire State College.
I am the recipient of a number of scholarships and writing awards, and served in Phi Theta Kappa as International President and later as Director of Regional Programs. Currently I work in the field of Physical Therapy, with home organization and writing as beloved second careers. FreeSpaces is my first published non-fiction work. I plan to publish more non-fiction as well as fiction. Some of these will include an narrative on my journey through the world of food issues, an historical fiction based on a family farm, tales of my years in Jamaica, and the background and stories of the women writers of the Gilded Age.
