« Pride and prejudice » is a romantic novel published in 1813. It's a social critique of rigidity of the society from XIX century. The main story revolves around two characters: Elizabeth Bennet y Fitzwilliam Darcy. Darcy, a landowning aristocrat who is too proud to speak to anyone. Elizabeth despite her pride and reluctance to know him. Both, must overcome their prejudices to achieve love in a hostile environment. "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."

Biographie de Jane Austen

Jane Austen (1775-1817) est née à Steventon, dans le Hampshire, au sein d'une famille de la petite gentry anglaise, entourée de sept frères et sours. La mort du père, pasteur, plonge la famille dans les difficultés financières. Avec Raisons et Sentiments (1811) et Orgueil et Préjugés (1813), qui détournent avec ironie les codes du roman sentimental, Jane connaît le succès. Suivront Mansfield Park (1814) et Emma (1816).
Son réalisme, son art de la satire et son humour mordant font d'elle l'un des écrivains anglais les plus appréciés. Elle meurt le 18 juillet 1817 à Winchester, près de Southampton.
